Fatsia japonica (Japanese aralia) is a bold, evergreen shrub valued for its large, glossy, palmate leaves that brighten shaded areas. Ideal for sheltered borders, woodland and courtyard plantings, and large containers on patios; it can also be grown indoors in bright, indirect light. Plant in moist, fertile, well-drained soil and position in partial to full shade. Small creamy-white flower clusters appear in autumn, sometimes followed by small black berries.
