Acer palmatum 'Starfish' is a slow-growing, deciduous Japanese maple valued for its distinctive, deeply lobed foliage that curves slightly upward to create a striking, sculptural look through the season. It thrives in partial shade in a sheltered spot, preferring moist but well‑drained, fertile soil that is acidic to neutral (avoid chalky ground). With minimal pruning (just to remove dead or crossing wood) and protection from drying winds, it makes an elegant focal point for small gardens, courtyards and containers, and is noted for reliable autumn foliage colour.
