Acer pal. Sangokaku

Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku', the coral-bark maple, is a graceful small deciduous tree celebrated for its vivid coral-red young stems that shine in winter. Palmate leaves open pale green in spring, deepen to fresh green in summer, and turn clear yellow in autumn for seasonal colour. Grow in a sheltered spot with light, dappled shade and moist but well-drained, fertile, humus-rich, preferably slightly acidic soil; protect from drying winds and hot afternoon sun. An excellent year-round focal point and a natural choice for Japanese-inspired and architectural planting schemes.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
